Professionalism Definition:

Professionalism is the commitment to conducting oneself with integrity, competence
and ethical responsibility in any workplace or academic environment. It encompasses
maintaining strong work ethics, meeting deadlines, producing quality work and sustaining
respectful professional relationships with supervisors, peers and clients. Professionalism
also means continuously seeking to improve one’s knowledge and skills over time, adapting
to both local and international professional contexts. In academic life, professionalism is
demonstrated through the quality of submitted work, the discipline to follow instructions
precisely and the willingness to take ownership of one’s performance and growth.

REFLECTION PARAGRAPH ON 1st ASSIGNMENT:

Professionalism Competency Indicator 3: Performs Professional Tasks Effectively and
Efficiently in Local and International Contexts, Course: Critical Thinking and Problem
Solving Assignment: In-Class Essay Rewrite “Critical Thinking and Its Importance in
Education” Performance Level: Intermediate.
This assignment required me to critically
analyze and summarize an academic article by Lenin, an Assistant Professor at AUE,
discussing the role of critical thinking in education. The task was completed as an in-
class written examination, which demanded that I organize my thoughts under time
pressure without access to external resources. The assignment directly tested
my professionalism by requiring me to produce a structured academic response, including
an introduction, summary, critical analysis and conclusion, all while adhering to strict
academic standards such as avoiding grammatical errors, irrelevant ideas and incomplete
thoughts.

Through this assignment, I developed the professional skill of working efficiently
under examination conditions, producing coherent written work with a clear thesis and
supporting arguments. I also strengthened my ability to apply analytical thinking to evaluate
both the strengths and weaknesses of a scholarly source. One major difficulty I encountered
was balancing depth of analysis with time limitations, I found myself spending too long on
the summary and rushing the critical analysis section. I overcame this by mentally allocating
a fixed time block to each section before I began writing, which improved my overall task
management. I rate my performance as intermediate because I demonstrated a solid
understanding of the article and constructed a logical argument, but my critical analysis could
have included more specific examples from real classroom settings. My advice to future
students is to practice timed writing before in-class exams and always outline your essay
briefly before writing a single sentence.

REFLECTION PARAGRAPH ON 2nd ASSIGNMENT:

Professionalism Competency Indicator 5: Demonstrates Integrity and Ethical
Behavior & Indicator 4: Improves and Increases Professional Competency Over
Time, Course: Prof. Dev. and Competencies Assignment: “The Role of BATNA in
Negotiation Success, Conflict Management Analysis” Performance Level: Intermediate.

In this written assignment, I explored how conflict arises in organizational settings and how
it can be diagnosed and resolved using a systems approach. The essay covered the
distinction between constructive and destructive conflict, the role of BATNA (Best
Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement) in negotiation, and how leaders can select
appropriate conflict resolution strategies such as avoidance, management and full
resolution, depending on the nature and severity of the dispute.

This assignment developed my understanding of professional ethics in the workplace,
particularly the importance of prioritizing interdependence and mutual benefit over power
and competition when handling conflict. It pushed me to think professionally about how
decisions affect entire organizational systems, not just individual departments. A
significant obstacle I faced was synthesizing theoretical frameworks from the course
textbook into my own original argument, I struggled to paraphrase academic sources without
losing the precision of their meaning. I overcame this by reading each passage twice, once for
understanding and once for structure, before writing my own version. I assess
my performance level as intermediate because I successfully analyzed the conflict scenario
and applied appropriate theory, but I could have strengthened my argument with more real-
world case studies to support my recommendations. For future students, I strongly advise
reading the assigned textbook chapters before the essay is due, as the theoretical foundation is
essential for writing an argument that is both credible and professionally structured.
